Here's the basic model:
Revenue x Multiplier = Valuation
First, assume an investor comes in at a $5M valuation.
Second, using our estimated minimum sale of $ 10M, and
an annual future revenue of, for example, $30M,
Then a discounted multiplier of, say, 12x,
$30M x 12x = $360M
Then, before calculating a return, the effect of subsequent financing rounds and that dilution must be factored in.
And lastly assuming several venture capital rounds dilute the early shareholders by an aggregate of 50%. Just ballparking here, the net/net ROI to an investor in the current round, with all of these assumptions, would be approximated by the equation
$360M / $5M x 50% dilution, or 36x.
So, a $ 25,000 investment -- given all of the assumptions above and caveats below in the DISCLAIMERS section, would be modeled at returning: $ 25,000 x 36x = $ 900,000. PLEASE NOTE we are not making this specific prediction or promise.
